Surrounded by hills and sea, Qingdao was one of the first cities recognized on the China's Excellent Tourism Cities list. Downtown Qingdao is known for its well-conserved European-style buildings. The city is home to many famous scenic spots, including Laoshan Mountain, Old Stone Seaside Resort, Phoenix Island Tourism Resort and Mashan Nature Conservation Area.
The city boasts the most beautiful coastal scenery belt and is a famous global destination for tourism, recreation and business conferences. The city hosts the China International Consumer Electronics Show (SINOCES), the China International Marine Fair, Qingdao International Fashion Week, the Qingdao International Beer Festival and other global competitions and exhibitions each year.
The city welcomed 57 million tourists in 2012, with tourism revenue of 80.7 billion yuan ($13.2 billion). It also won honors, making the list of China's Top 10 Tourism Destinations, China's Best Tourism Cities for Youngsters and China's Most Dynamic Leisure Cities. It will hold the 2014 Qingdao International Horticultural Exposition at the city's dynamic leisure island.
