An Open Day for the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) was held at the 2014 Qingdao International Horticultural Exposition on July 17.

The INBAR Garden at Qingdao expo covers 2,480 square meters (0.25 hectares) and is home to more than 5000 bamboos of 20 different varieties.

The Open Day helped visitors learn more about INBAR and also empowered them with the knowledge and skills they need to transform bamboo and rattan into opportunities to help them lead sustainable lives.

“A green city is a healthy city. It is our great honor to cooperate with Qingdao expo and I really hope the garden can promote the green development of cities,” said INBAR Director-General Dr. Hans Friederich.

INBAR is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to improving the livelihoods of the poor producers and users of bamboo and rattan, within the context of a sustainable natural environment.
